Episode 86: The Wizard of Stone Mountain

Careful with those wistful ruminations. An eavesdropping demon might offer you a dirty deal.

This week’s story is about Malek, an obsessive, lovesick wizard, who spends most of his time pining for Teela, who left him behind in the City of Wisdom to join the royal guard. He’s never stopped thinking about her and will gladly tell you all about it. Just ask his devoted apprentice, Karyn, who’s putting out a lot of signals (that Malek is not picking up).

The real trouble begins when a demon named Lokus agrees to lure Teela into Malek’s life in exchange for an unnamed favor. It’s a bargain that should give Malek a lot of pause, given that Lokus is a grifting underpants monkey demon. Truly, this creature is very upsetting, and we’ll spend a good bit of time trying to unpack the various ways that Lokus upsets us. Oh, and did we mention that Lokus works for the living embodiment of evil – who, as it happens, knows a ton about He-Man?

Along the way, we’ll discuss bothersome tropes about troubled men and recognize some great character moments between Adam and Teela.

Also, Will shares a Very Personal Story about a He-Man-related bargain from his youth.

If you start listening now, we promise you’ll never forget the delightful horror of Lokus the Demon. Do we have a deal?
